As we keep cruising along, we still can't get over how awesome the people we meet are and what amazing places there are to discover and learn about. Our Great Loop has been an "eye opener" for us - we aren't sure we're going to want to stop traveling when we are done!

Great Dunes Beach Park, Jekyll Island |
We stayed in
Daytona one night, not long enough to really explore, but we did get a chance to walk to the "historic" street, not far from the marina.
Our plan from there was to get to
St. Augustine before the bad weather arrived, so we didn't linger very long before we started our travel day. We made reservations at the
Rivers Edge Marina, it's off the main AICW, but was centrally located to shopping and the historic downtown. When it wasn't raining, we got some exploring done and learnt quite a bit about the area. It's the "oldest continually inhabited European settlement" in North America. (Not the oldest, as there are other sites/towns that are older - but were occupied by native Americans.) It's a really interesting town that we really want to visit again. There are many sites we didn't get a chance to see.

We were happy to see that the
free dock at Sisters Creek had lots of room for us when we arrived. It's right off the AICW a short distance from Jacksonville, FL. We met up with a couple other Loopers while we were there and also some locales who where curious about our boat (the Coronets are not very common sight these days). As we've mentioned before, the people are awesome!!! (Even the more "eccentric" ones we've met, have been interesting - everyone has a story.)

we were the last ones to leave |
We had talked about stopping and anchoring near
Cumberland Island, FL (a National Park), however it was still early in the day, so we decided to keep going and made it to
Jekyll Island, GA (a State Park, but with a whole community living there). It's one of our new favorite discoveries!!! We stayed two days at the
Jekyll Harbor Marina to take the time to visit the island.

Next stop: Savanna Georgia! We've heard this stop is not to be missed!
